Local SSL Certificates

$ mkcert -install
Created a new local CA 💥
The local CA is now installed in the system trust store! ⚡️
The local CA is now installed in the Firefox trust store (requires browser restart)! 🦊

$ mkcert example.com “*.example.com” example.test localhost 127.0.0.1 ::1

Created a new certificate valid for the following names 📜

  • “example.com”
  • “*.example.com”
  • “example.test”
  • “localhost”
  • “127.0.0.1”
  • “::1”

The certificate is at “./example.com+5.pem” and the key at “./example.com+5-key.pem” ✅

Prerequisite

sudo apt install libnss3-tools

Installing mkcert

Install mkcert using Homebrew on Linux

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install -y build-essential curl file git
change to regual user with sudo
change to regual user with sudo
change to regual user with sudo
/bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/HEAD/install.sh)"
echo 'eval "$(/home/linuxbrew/.linuxbrew/bin/brew shellenv)"' >> ~/.bashrc
source ~/.bashrc
brew --version

Now you can Install mkcert

brew install mkcert
Bash

Create new local CA

mkcert -install
Bash

Generate certificates for localhost 127.0.0.1

mkcert localhost 127.0.0.1 mmnginx.nginx.onprem
Bash

no root user

certificates must be created by a user that is not the “root” user

Verify CA Root Directory

mkcert -CAROOT
